ECT Mentor training

ECT Mentors play a vital role in the training of new teachers. Our flexible programme, delivered by our Teaching School Hub and UCL, will support you to support your ECT.

What is it?

Year 1 and 2 Mentor training is delivered through online seminars.
The Year 1 Mentor programme includes:
  • One 1-hour online seminar per half-term
  • Online self-directed study (approximately 2 hours per half term) to understand content explored by their ECT
Mentor Year 1 Modules:
  • Moving from novice to expert and mentoring to develop strong relationships
  • Precise actions and shared language
  • Not all practice is made equal
  • Managing workload and wellbeing
  • Balancing support and challenge
  • Building resilience
The Year 2 Mentor programme includes:
  • One 1-hour online seminar per half-term
  • Online self-directed study (approximately 1 hour per half term) to understand content explored by their ECT

  • Engaging your ECT with research
  • The adaptive teacher
  • Professionally-acceptable workload
  • Developing an inclusive educator
  • Developing beyond the ECF
